Storm Clouds Effect
I'm not exactly sure "storm clouds" is the right name for this effect... but anyhow, that's the only name I can think of. This effect is very simple, but it is still good for things like backgrounds.

1. Create a new image (or new layer, if you are adding this effect to something else), press shift-D to reset your foreground and background colours back to black and white respectivly. Now take the fill tool and fill the whole canvas in with black. Select filters>>render>> difference clouds. Do this a few times until you're happy with the look. |
|
2. Go to layer>>new>>layer and make a new layer ontop of the first one, set the mode to "color" (in the box that pops up when you click new layer there is an option for this). Fill the new layer in with whatever colours you want. Use a gradient for added spice. In the example, two gradients (on different layers) were used, with the topmost layer's opacity set to 30%. |
|
3. You could stop here and be done, but you can add more things. Like merging all layers (layers>>merge visable), and using the dodge tool under low exposure (36% in example) and dabbing here and there... add text, images... and you're done! View the finished product. |
